Legalizing Same-Sex Marriage Helped Reduce Suicide Attempts In LGBTQ Youths

$

About one of every six students in grades 9 through 12 contemplates suicide every year, according to The Trevor Project. And the statistics are even more concerning when it comes to LGB youths. Queer kids are four times more likely to attempt suicide than their straight peers, according to the organization.

While it's definitely still true that LGBTQ people face stigma worldwide — stigma that contributes to these statistics — researchers at Johns Hopkins University and Harvard University found that legalizing same-sex marriage reduced LGB suicide attempts by 7 percent.

It seems strange. Why would kids in their freshman year of high school be so affected by the fact that they could someday get married? For many LGBTQ people marriage equality felt like a small win, especially when queer people could still be fired for their sexuality and transgender people (and specifically women of color) are murdered for their gender identity.

But the change might not be about marriage, the researchers said in a statement about the study. States that legalized marriage equality before the Supreme Court ruling made it legal nationwide likely had a greater percentage of people who supported queer rights — and therefore students at the time felt less stigma.

“There may be something about having equal rights — even if [these students] have no immediate plans to take advantage of them — that makes students feel less stigmatized and more hopeful for the future,” Julia Raifman, a study author, said in the statement.

The researchers took data from an annual survey of high schools students done by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and looked through answers from 762,678 students who completed the survey from 1999 to January 2015 (before marriage equality was made legal nationwide.)

Overall, 28.5 percent of students who identified as a sexual minority said that they had attempted suicide in the last year, as compared to 6 percent of those who identified as straight. Of those who identified as a sexual minority and completed the survey between 2004 and 2015 when some states began legalizing same-sex marriage, about 7 percent fewer reported a suicide attempt if they lived in a state where same-sex marriage was legal.

From their data, study authors estimate that legalizing same-sex marriage nationwide meant there are about 134,000 fewer queer kids attempting suicide each year.

The data is incredible, and makes a strong argument for passing more laws protecting LGBTQ rights, even though the current political climate makes the chances of that seem pretty dismal.

We'll Be Wearing These Mulberry Duvet Coats All Throughout Fall, Thank You Very Much

There's a little voice in our heads that whispers, right as the lights dim before a fashion show: Here's hoping this collection has a resoundingly "cozy" theme. Even if a designer offers a riff on a garment that's more practical than plush and cuddly, it tends to be a decidedly impractical version of it — such as Balenciaga's sensible puffers, worn just off the shoulder enough to erase any pretension of effortlessness. Finally, though, a dream we've held near and dear ever since Jury's Inn revealed a prototype for a duvet suit sort of came true on the runway, thanks to Mulberry.

For its fall '17 collection, "we went to the archive of Mulberry Home from the '70s and took a lot of prints from the past," Johnny Coca, Mulberry's creative director, told Elle UK backstage. That decision touches on both on the brand's commitment to celebrating its British heritage and also the designer's own background in interior design. This translated to tartan outerwear, layered silk dresses, crochet skirts, and, most importantly: quilted ponchos that remind us of the comfort of home — except, now made fashion (and thus socially acceptable to wrap yourself in as you're leaving the house).

The Mulberry version of our dream-come-true toppers come in a range of archival patterns, from pastel florals to warm plaids. They range from hip- to knee-length, and either feature a front closure or are meant to be worn poncho-style, over one's clothes. Either way, coziness is a given.

If you're wondering if wearing duvet-like covers will ever be truly fashion-y, dispel those doubts immediately: Lotta Volkova (best known for her longtime, ongoing collaboration with Demna Gvasalia and ultimate decider of all-things-trendy) styled the Mulberry show, according to the Telegraph. It may be early, but we're calling our fall '17 wardrobe to be made up exclusively of this type of Snuggie-adjacent outerwear. See the highlights from the most relatable show of London Fashion Week, ahead.

Peta and Maksim Are Coming Back To Dancing With The Stars!

Dancing With The Stars fans can breath a sigh of relief, because Peta Murgatroyd and Maks Chmerkovskiy are officially coming back. The couple appeared on Good Morning America on Tuesday to announce that new baby Shai won't stop them from hitting the ballroom, and parenthood hasn't quelled their competitive natures one bit.

"I’m definitely a little bit nervous but I’m very excited to get back," Murgatroyd said. "I’ve definitely missed the dance floor."

Despite being partners in parenting, the two pros are not afraid to go head to head on the show.

"I'm also at all not afraid of this one," Chmerkovsky added. "I don't know if everybody remembers the history but last time we were together on the same season, I won."

Love thy self ❤ #Day17 postpartum. I think I'm doing ok....and I'm actually fine with the rate at which my body is shrinking back. After 2 days back at the gym I'm feeling like the old Peta again. I definitely don't have my 6 pack, and I still have excess skin and rolls on my belly, however I feel good. After all, slow and steady wins the race! I knew I needed to get back into the gym for my own sanity, but I also remind myself (as does Maks 😉) that I still need to take it easy. I cannot jump yet and still can't run a mile, but the exercises I've planned out are a good start. Honestly, the hardest part for me is getting my core strength back. Day 1 I couldn't do a sit up, here's day 17 and I'm doing 70+ 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻 Ladies, we all have to start somewhere...being an athlete I pride myself on having a lean, strong physique, so believe me this has been a challenge to work through, but as long as you have a loving support network around you, you will be fine ❤ #theresnothinglikehardwork

A post shared by Peta Murgatroyd (@petamurgatroyd) on

Although, he shouldn't be so cocky. We've seen how hard Murgatroyd has been hitting the gym since giving birth, and it seems like neither of them are going to let this new baby hold them back — even though they'll definitely miss him.

"This is the only difficult part about coming back on the show because it will just take time away from being with this dude," Chmerkovsky said. "But I just want to make her coming back and winning as difficult as possible."

Sounds like we have an intense season ahead when it premieres on March 2oth.

John Mayer Offers An Astute Critique Of The Bachelor (Take Note, ABC)

I Tried Every Beauty Product The Bachelor Stars Are Hawking

If you aren't familiar with The Bachelor, allow me to bring you up to speed: 25 women compete to win the heart of a clean-cut white man (only to go through a very public breakup with him a year later). A handful of the women quickly realize they won't be winning or getting much airtime and use the opportunity to make lifelong friends. And almost everyone who makes it past episode six is rewarded with some sweet Instagram endorsement deals.

Scroll through the accounts of former contestants and you'll see the following over and over and over again: teeth whiteners, detox tea, and curling wands. The women display them alongside bright smiles and thick hair — so this shit appears to be working. But I'm a skeptic of anything #spon, so I put myself on the Bachelor -approved road to beauty (which, it should be said, is very narrow). For two months, I tested seven of the most popular products shilled by the reality stars. Some let me down, a couple got me laid, and in one, I actually found love.

Whoever handles sponsorship deals at Sugar Bear Hair is working harder than all of us — it's practically impossible to find a former Bachelor contestant (or YouTuber or Kardashian) who doesn't advertise the gummy vitamin on Instagram. And when you see enough posts about something as ho-hum as biotin on your feed, you get curious...

Could a supplement make me as happy as a diamond ring (as Carly Waddell of The Bachelor season 19 suggests) — or, at the very least, give me Rapunzel hair?

Photo via @carlywad.

I've tried enough supplements that claim to be delicious to know that vitamins always taste like...vitamins. Most are pleasant enough, but there's always that faint chalky or metallic taste buried within them. Which is to say, I expected these ones — whose hero ingredients include biotin, folic acid, and vitamin C — to be good, but not great.

Then I popped open the jar and ate one. And I am here to say — without being paid a cent — that not only are these the most delicious vitamins on the planet, they're in the running for best gummy snack period. Remember Shark Bites from your youth? Well, those little great whites were discontinued (but being sold on eBay, which sounds like a fun way to get food poisoning). If you were blindfolded and given a Sugar Bear, though, you'd swear it was the same.

Popping just two a day was the hardest part — most afternoons, I had to lock them in my desk to keep myself from eating them like candy. I got all my coworkers hooked, too.

And that's when the breakouts started. My colleague's zits popped up a few days before mine, and knowing that the vitamins were the only change she'd made to her routine, she quit them cold turkey. I had a harder time. Despite having whiteheads surface along my smile lines (wtf?), I couldn't put down the little bears. I'd go a few days without them, then I'd crave a sugar fix and reach in.

And these certainly satisfied that fix — the first two ingredients are glucose syrup and sugar and there are three grams of sugar per serving. Perhaps that caused the breakouts; perhaps my co-worker and I don't react well to biotin supplements. (No studies have conclusively found that biotin, which is naturally produced by the body, causes acne; rather, it's the interaction of it with other vitamins in the body, or an excess of it that could lead to skin issues.) No matter, I'm still struggling to give them up, and the bumps around my mouth are still there.

Sugar Bear Hair Hair Vitamins, $29.99, available at Sugar Bear Hair.

Desiree Siegfried, née Hartsock, of The Bachelorette, is living the reality-show dream. She fell in love with the guy, got married, had a baby, and now endorses, among other things, this laser hair removal device.

Personally, I'm all about a fuzz-free body, and I've experienced how well these at-home devices work if you stick to them, so I was excited for this one.

Photo via @desireesiegfried.

Tria, Silk'n Flash, Illuminage — name a hair-removal system and you can bet I've given it a whirl. And the thing is: they work if I use them regularly. But then, inevitably, I get complacent and store the laser in the back of my storage cabinet and soon, I'm back to regrowth.

Out of every one I've tried, though, I fell in love with this device the most. It's intuitive and easy to use, it plugs in so I don't have to worry about charging it, and it hurts less than others even at the highest setting. The only places it made me wince were in the middle of my armpit and — TMI? — my labia. The bikini line was a cinch, though.

The device is expensive, yes, but not in comparison to the price of laser treatments in a salon. And, best of all, it works on both your face and your body — most of its competitors only target one or the other.

I've now used it three times, once every other week, which is when the brand says results will start to show. That's optimistic — I've had enough experience to know it takes a few months — but I have been able to go an extra day longer between shaving and I'm going to hold myself to the treatments through winter at least.

LumaRx Full Body IPL Skin Beauty System, $449, available at Luma-Rx.

Jen Saviano of season 20 of The Bachelor calls herself out in her Instagram bio as being "really bad at reality TV," but we say, that's probably a good thing to be bad at. Being good at skin care, on the other hand, is something to aspire to — and she looks like she has that down pat.

Photo via @jensav11.

If, like me, you aren't so into DIY-ing your beauty products, you might be a little put off by this clay mask. I hoped to open it and find a creamy green mask I could smear straight on my face, but this one asks you to mix equal parts of the powder with water. Still, I did it, then brushed the stuff on with a foundation brush, as the site recommends.

The natural mask is rich in minerals and clays — much more so than most I've come across. It's formulated with six different types of clay, plus calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron, silica, and sodium, all of which work to pull out sebum, suck up oil, and soothe irritation.

Here is where I admit that these hard, drying mud masks aren't my favorite — they're crusty, they pull my skin, they take a lot of rubbing to remove. But this one came off easily, actually seemed to decrease the blackhead count on my nose a bit, and didn't leave me feeling like I needed to dump a jar of La Mer on my dry, tight face afterwards.

Northport Naturals Detoxifying Clay Mask, $19, available at Northport Naturals.

To say there's not a lot of hair diversity on The Bachelor is an understatement — good luck trying to find a pixie cut, natural texture, or rainbow color. Long, smooth waves rule, and former contestants like Amanda Stanton use Bombay Hair tools and extensions to get 'em.

I set aside my prized Beachwaver to give the brand's five-in-one curling wand a go.

Photo via @amanda_stantonn.

For the price, this five-piece curling set is a deal — you get three standard wands in varying barrel sizes, a tapered one for more lived-in waves, and a bubble add-on for those who like to follow a template (just wrap around the indents).

The tapered pearl barrel was my favorite; it gave me easy, tousled waves that looked exactly like the ones I get with my Beachwaver, but did require a bit more effort.

I rarely (okay, never) experiment with different hairstyles, so this isn't a set I would get a whole lot of use out of. But if you are more creative and want a tool with a ton of features (digital temperature control, automatic shut-off, ceramic-infused tourmaline which helps with frizz and static), this is for you. And it's super convenient for travel... if you happen to be competing on a TV show that only allows you two checked bags.

Bombay Hair 5-in-1 Curling Wand, $150, available at Bombay Hair.

Show me a Bachelor contestant with yellow teeth and I'll show you a doctored photo. If you're going to be on the show, your only tooth-shade options are white and blindingly white, as evidenced by Jade Roper of season 19 (who later found love on Bachelor in Paradise).

Photo via @jadelizroper.

The whitening kit favored by former Bachelor girls is no one-and-done, white-strips situation. First, you have to custom-fit the upper and lower trays to your mouth by softening them in hot water, molding them around your teeth, and trimming them down so they don't cover the gums. Then, you have to shoot in the gel with the syringe, which makes a small mess, avoid getting it all over your tongue and lips when you put the trays in your mouth, and hit your teeth with the LED light. It's a lot of freaking effort.

That being said, yes, my teeth were noticeably whiter after one use — this product worked far better than most strips. But it stung my gums (which are admittedly very sensitive) and for $300, I'd rather let the dentist handle it while I sit back.

Smile Sciences Teeth Whitening Kit, $299, available at Smile Sciences.

Dogs might be wary of mud masks, but the women of this franchise, including former Bachelorette Andi Dorfman, sure aren't. Which makes sense, given that the only thing contestants can do when they're not filming is gossip, drink Pinot Grigio, or perform beauty rituals.

Photo via @andi_dorfman.

At this point, I have to give it to the girls of the #BachFam — they work hard for their white teeth and acne-free skin, measuring and mixing and cleaning up cups and spoons when all is said and done.

This mask was almost identical to the other one, only so much tighter — uncomfortably tight. In fact, it was the tightest clay mask I've ever tried. I made the mistake of applying it too close to my eyes and it pulled the outer corners down as it dried. I could practically see the crow's feet forming. I took a warm wash cloth and wiped the clay away from everywhere but the T-zone, which I think is the way to go here.

Then, 20 minutes later, I washed it all off. My skin was brighter and smoother, so it was worth it in the end, but in the future, I'll just be using this as a spot treatment.

TruSelf Organics Detoxifying Mask, $24.95, available at TruSelf Organics.

Is there anything more unforgiving than the combination of high-definition television and a dating competition? We think not. But there's one thing that softens the punch: false lashes.

No matter how gorgeously long and thick your natural ones may be in the real world, TV cameras will find a way to make them look short and stumpy. And no matter how hard you try to choke back tears when you get cut after a night in the Fantasy Suite, some will escape, and they shouldn't be black.

No one knows this better than season-19 contestant, beauty guru, and frequent crier Ashley Iaconetti...which is why she designed her own.

Photo via @ashley_iaconetti.

There's good news and bad news when it comes to these falsies. Let's start with the good: They come in a cute little Tiffany-blue box that's perfect for gifting, they're ridiculously soft, and they blend seamlessly into your natural lashes, which is arguably the most important quality.

But two things threw me off: 1. There is no glue included. (Why, why, why do brands do this?) Luckily, I found an extra tube in our beauty closet, but everyone else will have to make an inconvenient trip to the drugstore; 2. The lashes are made using 100% horse hair, and while the company promises they're cruelty-free, it provided no information on where, exactly, the hair is sourced. When I reached out to the brand, they said the hair was combed from horses and indeed cruelty-free, but couldn't provide any further specifics.

As an animal lover who uses only synthetic brushes (and is well-versed in what happens to unwanted horses), I just couldn't wear these again with a clean conscience without more information.

Lashed by Lashley Paradise Lashes, $28, available at Pretty Girls Make Faces.

This New Google Chrome Scam Is Scary-Easy To Fall For

$

Another day, another scary way to get hacked. Haven't we had enough?

The Next Web reports that hackers are targeting users of Google Chrome with a new scam that's incredibly easy to fall for. Those affected my see a pop-up prompting them to download and install a "missing font" file. But the file is actually malware.

What makes this scam particularly scary is that everything about the browser message — the type of "missing font," the dialog window, the Chrome logo, and even the "update" button's blue shade — looks legit.

So, how can you stay safe?

According to NeoSmart Technologies, which first identified the hack, there are several ways to recognize the scam.

First of all, the dialog window has been coded to show the user is running Chrome's 53 version. If this is not the version you have installed in your computer, that might be a clue that something isn't right.

There's also a problem with the file names: When clicking the "Update" button, a file titled "Chrome Font v7.5.1.exe" will be downloaded. But this name doesn’t match the one shown in the malicious instruction image, which would read "Chrome_Font.exe."

Even if you fail to identify these signs, you may get a standard "this file isn’t downloaded often" warning when you try to download the file. Still, the Next Web warned that Chrome is currently not filtering out the file as malicious. So you should always exercise caution when downloading or installing anything from the internet onto your computer.

Did This Pretty Little Liars Twitter Account Just Spoil The Ending Of The Show?

$
0
0

Pretty Little Liars has promised that all of our A-related questions will be answered by the time the show bows out this year. The biggest question, of course, is who is at the top of the A pyramid? There are so many theories as to who Uber A could be, but what if we had the answer the entire time? Twitter account @PLLINSIDER claims that they already know who A is, and they're feeding fans major plot points that could unravel the entire show.

There's one problem with this account: It could be total BS. It's not the first time that a fan made up spoilers that seemed legit before a major finale: prior to Charlotte (Vanessa Ray) being revealed as Big A, someone on Reddit claimed that Wren (Julian Morris) was the one under the black hoodie. Fans were so convinced that Wren was A that ABC Family (now Freeform) had to release a statement debunking the alleged "spoilers," which turned out to be totally bogus.

While you may want to take the spoilers on this Twitter account with a grain of salt (a.k.a., definitely do!) they do present quite a compelling theory. According to the account, Uber A is actually — dun dun duuuuun — Lauren DiLaurentis, a.k.a. Alison's (Sasha Pieterse) secret twin. Alison doesn't actually have a twin on the show (at least, not yet) but the alleged "spoilers" tie her into the story quite nicely.

According to the Twitter account, Lauren was the twin whom Charlotte "tried to drown" in the bathtub. She lost her sight during the accident and was sent to a school for the blind — the same place where the Liars were nearly murdered at the end of season 7A. Lauren used the guilt that Charlotte had to control her in order to torture Alison, whom she hated.

Says @PLLINSIDER:

"Lauren and Jessica used the guilt Charlotte had of the mistake she made as a kid (blinding and burning Lauren in the tub) to control her."

The account also states that Lauren befriended Jenna (Tammin Sursok) and Lucas (Brendan Robinson) and recruited them to her side. Lucas was apparently in love with Charlotte, and was working to take down the girls in order to learn of Charlotte's killer. That certainly gives credence to the theory that Uber A and A-Moji weren't the same person: Lucas would have been the one sending those bizarre emoticons, while Uber A (a.k.a. Lauren) was doing the heavy lifting.

Other random spoilers from this account? According to @PLLInsider, Pastor Ted (Edward Kerr) is Charlotte's biological father (called it) and that Mona (Janel Parrish) dies trying to save the Liars from a fire — a fire that is also a big part of the PLL book series.

So... how accurate are these spoilers? I'm a total skeptic. I think it's far more likely that these tweets came from a clever fan than anyone actually associated with the show — but that doesn't mean what this fan is saying is totally false. Fans have long suspected that Alison has a twin (she has one in Sara Shephard's novels) and many people believe that the ever-sketchy Lucas is a part of the PLL endgame. This Twitter account may be fibbing about their authority, but they're not necessarily taking shots in the dark here.

Alas, we'll have to wait until the show's series finale to find out if there's any truth in these tweets.

This Pro Secret Is The Key To Taking Care Of Curly & Textured Hair

$

0

Ask any hairstylist and they'll tell you this: Properly conditioning your hair is not a one size fits all endeavor. In fact, those with curly or textured hair might find that slapping on a mask or deep conditioner in the shower rarely yields the kind of health-boosting results you desire. What you may not know is that understanding your hair's porosity just may be the secret to softer, shinier, more voluminous, and all around healthier strands.

Understanding your hair's porosity, or how well your hair absorbs and retains moisture, is the first step towards proper deep conditioning. Then, only once you know where your hair falls on the spectrum can you take steps to make your masking session more effective. For more on this topic we consulted two pros that work primarily with curly and textured strands: Shai Amiel, stylist and co-founder of L.A.'s Capella Salon, and Nikki Walton, curl expert and author of CurlyNikki.

So where do we begin? Click here to uncover your hair's porosity level first — there's a simple "float test" that makes it easy — then keep clicking for tricks to make your mask day that much better.

Low Porosity Hair

What You Need To Know: Low porosity hair retains water well, but has a hard time absorbing it, due to tightly-sealed cuticles. For a deep conditioner to work well on low porosity hair, it’s important to use products with humectants that draw moisture from the air, like honey and glycerin. In addition, avoid products with proteins, as low porosity hair struggles to absorb 'em. One caveat: Small proteins are okay — like hydrolyzed protein — as they have a better shot of absorbing.

The Pro Trick: While the right product can do wonders, if your hair's cuticles remain closed the ingredients simply can't be absorbed. The solution? Using indirect heat.

Put on a shower cap after you apply your mask to help lock in heat from your shower, or use a steamer (more on that later) to add heat to your treatment. Then, seal the cuticle after by washing the conditioner out with cool water.

Try: Shea Moisture Manuka Honey & Marufa Oil Intensive Hydration Hair Masque $12, available at Target.

Medium Porosity Hair

What You Need To Know: If your hair absorbs and retains water easily, then you have medium porosity hair (you did our "float test," right?). Luckily, the pros say it's the easiest to deep condition!

The Pro Trick: Amiel suggests cleansing the scalp as soon as you get in the shower, then allowing the masks to work its magic thorugh your shower, rinsing as the last step in your routine. He also notes that you should “use water-soluble products that will hydrate the hair from within, as opposed to heavy products that coat the hair." He adds: "Remember, hydrate, don't lubricate." Translation: That means applying pure coconut oil won't deliver the same results as masks packed with proteins and extracts that are formulated to absorb.

Try: Kerastase Maskeratine, $20.50, available at kerastase-usa.com

High Porosity Hair

What You Need To Know: High porosity hair is very receptive to products and water, giving off moisture as quickly as it takes it in. The pros say that a high porosity state often occurs from damage after coloring or direct heat from tools.

The Pro Trick: When deep conditioning high porosity hair, indirect heat is once again a great resource (see the pro tips on slide one). Thick, heavy conditioners with proteins that will reinforce damaged hair and compensate for missing or chipped layers on the hair shaft is also key. Heavier oils such as avocado and castor oil will also help seal the cuticle and keep the moisture locked in until your next wash day. So in this case, lubricating with oil after you rinse your mask, while hair is still damp, is a great idea.

Try: Marula Deep Moisture Hair Mask, $36, available at marula.com

All Porosity Levels

You may be left with one resounding question: How can I add more heat to my conditioning routine? As you just read, it's a great way to make your masks work better — especially for low and high porosity hair. Overall, heat is a great way to get a deeper penetration out of your conditioner.

The Pro Trick: Handheld and portable steamers make it easy — although simply wrapping a hot towel around your head while you binge Netflix will do the trick, too.

In addition, avoid pinning your hair on the top of your head while you deep condition. Instead, secure your hair in a low bun to allow the products to work their way down, through your hair shaft, to saturate breakage-prone ends.

Try: Q-Redew Handheld Hair Steamer, $69.95, available at Q-Redew.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but also the earliest. If you're a morning person, who springs out of bed every day ready to tackle your to-do list, then congrats, I bet you have a great breakfast every morning. For the rest of us, though, getting out the door with socks on both feet and mascara on both lashes is struggle enough.

When you're hitting the snooze button like you're on Jeopardy, the most important meal of the day can easily become an afterthought, or ( quelle horreur!) skipped altogether. Toast for breakfast may be the question of a few minutes labor, but perfectly buttered toast with soft, melty butter actually takes some work. Unless you happen to have a heated butter knife, allowing you to cut through even the coldest stick of butter with the flick of a wrist.

MagicLux Tech Heating Butter Knife, $25.99, available at Amazon.

Or, better yet, streamline the wake-and-caffeinate process with an alarm clock that's also a pour-over brewer.

The Office's Jim & Pam Are Still Relationship Goals

$

It's been nearly 12 years since the American version of The Office premiered on NBC. That means that for more than a decade, audiences everywhere have been obsessed with Jim (John Krasinski) and Pam's (Jenna Fischer) relationship.

Jim and Pam's flirting always brought joy to an otherwise terrible work environment. And once they were together, the show morphed from a work sitcom into a very real depiction of the struggles that accompany marriage.

The Office 's last few seasons, which were often strange and disjointed, tarnished its memory for many fans. But Jim and Pam still live on as one of the best couples in TV history. They may have been minor players at Dunder Mifflin, at least at first, but their relationship anchored the show, even at its low points.

We've rounded up some of the best Jim and Pam moments from The Office 's run. If you watched the show, you'll definitely swoon while watching this video. Jim and Pam are definitely relationship goals.

Nasty Gal Is Shuttering Its Stores, But Everything Online Is Now 70% Off

Nasty Gal is expected to live on in some form, should the widely-speculated Boohoo acquisition go through, in the near future. In the meantime, though, the brand laid off employees and revealed plans to close its two brick-and-mortar locations earlier this month, The Wall Street Journal reported. Depending on how you look at it, though, there's a silver lining (sort of): Nasty Gal currently has a ton of discounted inventory right now, and is offering an additional 70% off sale, per Racked. So, at least we can cope with the retailer's imminent closure with some retail therapy.

This story was originally published on November 10, 2016.

As if it hasn't been a tough enough week for #girlbosses, fashion-favorite brand Nasty Gal (its founder, Sophia Amoruso, coined the popular hashtag) is filing for bankruptcy, WWD reports.

The retailer, which just celebrated a decade in the business, petitioned a court in California with the motion on Wednesday. According to WWD, the decision reportedly came out of an October 24 meeting, where the company's board voted to seek Chapter 11 protection. Amoruso, the de facto face of the brand, will be resigning from her position as executive chairman, according to Recode — a role she assumed after stepping down as CEO in early 2015.

"Our decision to initiate a court-supervised restructuring will enable us to address our immediate liquidity issues, restructure our balance sheet, and correct structural issues including reducing our high occupancy costs and restoring compliance with our debt covenants," Sheree Waterson, Nasty Gal's chief executive officer, said in a statement. "We expect to maintain our high level of customer service and emerge stronger and even better able to deliver the product and experience that our customers expect, and that we take pride in bringing to market."

Despite the problems plaguing the company she started in 2006, Amoruso has had a pretty big year. She released her second book; her life story is being turned into a Netflix series, and she was named to Forbes' richest self-made women list this summer.

Nasty Gal did, however, experience an unexpected boost a few weeks ago from an otherwise unfortunate situation: When President-elect Donald Trump called Hillary Clinton a "nasty woman" during the third and final debate, the attempted jab was quickly reclaimed by the Democrat's supporters online — and Nasty Gal seized the opportunity.

Still, as a business, it hasn't fared as well. In February, Nasty Gal laid off 10% of its staff, per Bloomberg, following months of reports of a work culture gone sour and a series of lawsuits from former employees accusing the retailer of discrimination. A handful of other publicblunders and call-outs made many question the fast-growing (and industry-revered) brand.

In its official statement, Nasty Gal assured that its customers' shopping experience wouldn't be affected in light of this petition. There's still no word how this will impact the brand's two brick-and-mortar locations in California.

George & Amal Clooney Are Limiting Their Travel Plans

After announcing that they're expecting twins later this spring, George and Amal Clooney made an announcement that'll put a stop to their globetrotting lifestyle.

People reports that George told French paper Paris Match that he'd stop traveling to dangerous places and that Amal would do the same. It looks like George is going to be a protective dad — and that caution is starting even before the babies arrive.

"We decided to be much more responsible, to avoid the danger," George told Paris Match. "I won't go to South Sudan anymore or the Congo, Amal will no longer go to Iraq and she'll avoid places where she knows she isn't welcome."

As a human rights lawyer, Amal has traveled to dangerous countries to defend her clients. In the past, she's gone to Iraq to defend survivors of human trafficking and challenged terrorist groups. George has visited South Sudan to expose rampant corruption and theft in the country. He's also spent plenty of time vacationing in exotic locales, though the risks of sunning in Cabo are probably not what he's referring to as "danger."

George also told the publication that, while he and Amal would be avoiding dangerous locales, they aren't settling down just yet. The couple plan on taking the kids along when they travel between their three homes.

"We have the chance to live between three countries: Italy, America, and England," Clooney said. "But as soon as the children go to school, it'll be necessary to choose where to settle. In the meantime, we will continue to move according to our respective schedules."

Last year, Amal told People that she and George have discussed the dangers of her work taking on ISIS and other high-profile cases. "We are aware of some of the risks involved," she said. It looks like she and George are both agreeing to put the kids first.

Things Look Good For The Cutest Love Actually Couple In The Sequel

$

0

Rom-com lovers' dreams came true earlier this month when news of a Love Actually sequel broke. The 10-minute continuation of the 2003 holiday classic is set to revisit the movie's characters years after we left off with them. Much of the original cast is participating in the mini-sequel, which is being aired as a BBC special on Red Nose Day, the U.K.'s national children's charity fundraising day. (Sadly, viewers on this side of the pond will have to wait until May 25 to see it.) That includes Hugh Grant, Keira Knightley, Andrew Lincoln, Colin Firth, Liam Neeson, Bill Nighy, and more.

The actors who played the most sweet and innocent couple in the movie are returning, too — and my, have they grown up. Thomas Brodie-Sangster, who played Liam Neeson's hopelessly in love stepson Sam, and Olivia Olson, who played his crush Joanna, have been spotted on set. And the fate of their relationship is looking very promising.

Image: Via Tumblr.

When we last saw the pair, Joanna gave Sam a kiss on the cheek before hopping on a plane to the U.S. Things were left open-ended with them. But these recent photos from the set have us thinking they may have ended up together after all.

In the pictures, we can see Brodie-Sangster, Olson, and Neeson doing a scene on what looks like the same bench where Sam and his stepdad had a heart-to-heart. And needless to say, people are thrilled. Is Sam introducing his girlfriend and stepdad? Are they sharing news of their engagement?!

While we won't find out if Sam and Joanna really found love together for a while, we're going to tell ourselves that's the case until then. Because love actually is all around us, or something like that.

Is This The Reason Mia's One-Woman-Show Flopped In La La Land?

These La La Land Engagement Pics Are Such A Delight

La La Land is a lyrical story of love and Los Angeles. So it's no surprise that the film was recently used as inspiration for an engagement photo shoot. Marlies Hartmann of M. Hart Photography took cues from the Oscar-nominated blockbuster when shooting Ellen Wleklinski and Corey Collins, who plan to wed in September at the Redondo Beach Historic Library.

The result was part Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, part Ellen and Corey — and every bit as evocative of Old Hollywood as intended. The Huffington Post reports that some of the cinematic shots took place on January 29 around the Griffith Observatory — through which Mia and Sebastian danced on their first date — while others (the nighttime photos) were taken two weeks later at the Hollywood Bowl overlook.

"My favorite part about the shoot was the real-life chemistry between Ellen and Corey!" Hartmann tells Refinery29. "They are effervescent as a couple, full of the same kind of zest for life and contagious energy as Mia and Sebastian. They made the whole shoot light up just by being themselves…wildly in love and nuts about each other…in that timeless, Old Hollywood sort of way."

Ahead, see the photos from the City of Stars.

Ellen was the one who suggested having the engagement shoot in Griffith Park: She lives nearby and often runs there, and Ellen and Corey — just like Mia and Sebastian — went to the Griffith Observatory for one of their first dates. Hartmann had just seen La La Land and noticed how much the couple resembles Mia and Sebastian.

"I figured another photographer had probably beat me to the idea and already recreated something similar, but after searching online I couldn’t find anything of the sort!" says Hartmann. When she mentioned the idea to Ellen and Corey, they loved it.

Photo: Courtesy of M. HART PHOTOGRAPHY.

"They were both huge fans of the film, and Ellen always felt that Corey looked like her own personal Ryan Gosling!" says Hartmann.

Ellen already owned a few Mia-style wardrobe pieces, like this blue Elie Tahari dress...

...and this black Betsey Johnson sheath.

"[Ellen and Corey] have an Oscar-worthy romance that is universally desired and understood!" says Hartmann.

"For the nighttime 'blue hour' shots, we wanted to shoot at Cathy’s Corner, which is the exact location where the movie was shot, but on the day of the shoot, we realized that we’d have to hike two miles up to the location with all our gear and lighting equipment to get there!" says Hartmann. "We luckily had a 'plan B' and drove to the nearby Hollywood Bowl Overlook, which ended up being the perfect place to recreate the dance scene from the film."

Photo: Courtesy of M. HART PHOTOGRAPHY.

Ellen also already owned a yellow dress (by Nieves Lavi) reminiscent of the one Emma Stone wore in the night shots.

"We knew that our goal was to recreate and evoke the energy and feeling from the film, as well as portray the images as if the characters had indeed gotten their 'Hollywood' happily-ever-after ending we all hoped for when watching the movie," says Hartmann.

Turns Out, $8 Bra Inserts Make Great Makeup Sponges

Update: Apparently, getting your hands on that silicone makeup sponge that could pass as a water droplet is much easier than we imagined — well, sort of. While the SiliSponge itself is sold out, Cosmopolitan reports that bra inserts — you know, the ones that give your breasts a little extra lift — make excellent dupes. And we're 100% here for it.

The best part about using this alternative is that it works crazy-well. Cosmo put the inserts to the test, and the results were impressive: You waste less product, it's easier to clean up, and you get an airbrush-like finish. So, if you don't want to wait to get your hands on the SiliSponge, stop by your local Forever 21 and pick up a pack of bra inserts (it's under nine bucks — a total steal, if you ask us). No one will ever know.

This story was originally published on November 28, 2016.

It’s an age-old beauty problem that even occasional blogger John Mayer knows about: Often, you lose too much makeup to your brushes before applying. However, one keen Reddit user may have found a solution in an unusual blending device sold in the recesses of the internet. The tool, called SiliSponge, is a clear and smooth makeup applicator, presumably made out of silicone. (And yes, it looks a bit like a breast-lifting bra insert.)

We found one for sale on Hong Kong-based website Molly Cosmetics, which claims that it's intended to apply makeup without dirtying your fingers or soaking up valuable product. Like us, members of the Makeup Addiction subreddit aren’t quite sure what to make of it. Some commenters think it’s too gimmicky. As user sammisamantha pointed out, applying foundation with a blob of silicone could give you the feeling of being “slapped in the face with foundation.”

Others, like briannasaurusrex92, wonder what exactly the SiliSponge is made from. She commented, “[R]eal silicone is almost never crystal-clear like that, even in small thicknesses. Transparent, perhaps, but it almost always has a bit of cloudiness to it.” While the applicator’s name suggests that it’s made from silicone, the Molly Cosmetics site doesn’t divulge its material.

Could this clear applicator be the next tool that changes the makeup-application game? We’ll be keeping an eye out to see (although, so far it has zero mentions on YouTube). If your curiosity is piqued, you can score it for a cool $9 at Molly Cosmetics.

That's where sex games come in. You're probably familiar with some of them — sexy truth or dare, dirty dice — but have you ever given a sensory-play card game or a role-playing app a whirl?

Whether you're looking to try something new with a long-term S.O. or getting adventurous with a new partner, sex games can be just the thing you need for inspiration. Just dim the lights, turn off your phones (or keep them on if you're using a sexy app), and see how things start to heat up.

If you end up in bed before you finish the game, don't worry. In that case, everyone's a winner.

Click through to browse some of the steamiest sex games available.

With 52 games in one box, this game set is as thorough as it gets.

This Mom's Heartbreaking Photo Of Her Son's Battle With Cancer Is Going Viral

Watching their child get sick with cancer is one of the most devastating things that can happen to a parent. In a post on Facebook, one mom opened up about the realities of childhood cancer with one raw photo.

"It is about to get real, real hard and real quick," she captioned the photo, which was originally posted on her son's Facebook page and then shared on Love What Matters.

She wrote that she was sharing the photo of her son in his pull-ups for anyone who is battling cancer or enduring chemotherapy, and to show that "life is not always politically correct and pretty, it is real. Life isn't pretty, and cancer destroys a person."

"This was this morning after carrying Drake to the bathroom," she wrote. "Yes, he is in a pull up because 75% of the time he can't control his bathroom habits."

She went on to explain that her son, Drake (lovingly nicknamed "Stinky Joe"), is "skin and bones" because his change in appetite meant that she has to beg him to eat and drink a bare minimum amount each day.

"This is having your son sleep with you at night because he is afraid of something happening and being alone, and by something I mean dying," she continued. "This is having middle of the night conversations with a ten year old, asking if he dies will he go to heaven and will he see his dad there and be able to talk and play with him."

"This is him telling me, 'mommy, I'm not going to make it.'"

Since the post was shared to Love What Matters, it has received an overwhelming reaction, with thousands of other Facebook users commenting on the post to ask how they can help. The boy's aunt, Ericka Medinger commented on the photo as well, writing that the family is setting up a P.O. box for anyone who might want to send donations or gifts.

"Right now we are just trying to get through the day," she wrote. "We never expected this to spread as much as it has. Thank you for your care and support. We want to raise awareness that childhood cancer only receives 4% of research funding. Please pray as that means the most to us."

The family has also set up a Facebook page to keep people updated on Drake's treatment, and have also posted an address where people can send gifts and notes. We're sending all our best to Drake and his family.

Frances Bean's 50th Birthday Message To Father Kurt Cobain Will Break Your Heart

Monday marked what would have been the 50th birthday of music legend Kurt Cobain. The Nirvana icon was just 27 when he was found dead inside his home in Seattle, and his daughter, Frances Bean, wasn't even two years old. However, she still carries her father close to her heart, and commemorated his birthday with a touching post on Instagram.

February 20th 2017. Happy Birthday.

A post shared by Frances Bean Cobain (@space_witch666) on

The post features a picture of a handwritten note that reads "Today would’ve been your 50th birthday. You are loved and you are missed. Thank you for giving me The GIFT of Life. Forever your daughter, Frances Bean Cobain."

"February 20th 2017," she captioned the photo. "Happy Birthday."

There's no doubt that her father would be proud were he alive to see her today. The 24-year-old helped produce Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck and is slated to be the face of Marc Jacobs’ spring 2017 ad campaign. At such a young age, her accomplishments are only just beginning.

Unicorn-like iridescence hit the runways this season and we're not all that surprised, considering how the beauty trend is just about everywhere these days (even in the form of 3D nails).

One of the newest shades to Stila's sheer line is this sultry brown that flatters all skin tones and is almost too easy to apply.

Are press-on nails kind of retro? Of course. But they also let you avoid the dreaded glitter polish removal process, which makes them winners in our book.

The Blonds

This delivers serious lift at the roots (it's like teasing in a bottle), but it's heavy-duty and sprays out more forcefully than expected, so go easy.

Leave it to Reddit to find all the best packaging fails that cause major confusion among consumers. The most recent addition in this obscure category of hilarious posts was uploaded to the /r/firstworldanarchists subreddit a few hours ago by a user known as dagbrown. The post entitled "This cat food" shows a photo of a package of cat food. The box features a picture of a cat, bowl, and a spoonful of the shredded up meat concoction. All of the information on the package is written in Japanese, except for one extremely puzzling line, which reads, "I [love] my puppy."

This cat food from firstworldanarchists

As you can imagine, the commenters ran wild with questions and assumptions about the box's labeling fail. One Redditor named Bryaxis summed up what we were all wondering with one succinct comment, "Wait, does the cat love eating puppy, or is cat being fed to a beloved puppy?"

And, another user named paarre questioned if the food was actually meant for humans, seeing as there was a spoon on the box. They wrote, "Do cats normally eat cat food with a spoon?"

According to a few different commenters who claim to be able to read Japanese, the label says that it is cat food made with chicken breast and tuna, though that still doesn't explain why the word "puppy" is included on the label at all. Even after the contents of the cat food were cleared up by the Japanese reading Reddit users, jokes persisted in the comments section of the post. ianthenerd wrote, "This is for those resentful cat owners." And, to that, BurgerLaowai responded, "'I wish I had adopted a dog instead...'" Another commenter named Ahayzo wrote, "'I love my puppy... so he gets the good food while my cat gets this crap.'"

The post from dagbrown has so far gained 3,204 upvotes, but we still don't have a definitive answer on what the hell is in this box and who or what it's meant for.
