Leather jackets, new jeans, cozy sweaters — we’re all for building up our fall wardrobes around this time of year, but we also like to give a little love to our makeup bags, too. Because let’s face it: By the time you’ve worn your new jacket to death, or that pumpkin-spice latte has lost its allure, or the refreshingly crisp air has turned downright cold, a really great lipstick (or ten) is the gift that keeps on giving all the way through the season.
With this in mind, we sifted through the new fall lipstick collections to find the best of the best. And we’re calling it: From vampy burgundies to super-flattering reds to mood-lifting pinks, these 14 shades are the ones you’re going to be seeing everywhere this season. It may look like a tinted balm, but there’s nothing “tinted” about this sucker. The formula is rich, creamy, and super-saturated. And the nutty mahogany shade will please anyone who rocked one of those iconic brown shades (like Toast of New York) straight through the ‘90s. This is truly brown-lip realness right here.
MAC Liptensity Lipstick in Toast & Butter, $21, available at MAC.

If you caught any backstage beauty reports after the fall shows earlier this year, you surely noticed that every single beauty editor was fawning over the dark-lips trend. Well, this is the very lipstick that gave them the Victorian-Gothic fever. It’s a dark burgundy-plum and it’s the exact shade that makeup artist Peter Philips used at the fall 2016 Dior show. There, he topped it off with gloss for a high-shine look; worn alone, it’s perfectly matte.
Dior Rouge Dior Lipstick in Poison Matte, $35, available at Dior.

We're fans of options, and lip palettes give you just that and more. If plum is your thing (as it should be — it's super flattering on everyone), this palette offers eight distinct hues to wear alone or mix together for a custom color. There's something for every look, from professional bruncher to social butterfly, and everything in between.
Maybelline, $13.99, available at Maybelline
This might not be the lipstick you'd wear to a job interview. Instead, this shiny, opaque, black-with-a-capital-B is what you wear when you feel like a grade-A badass who just DGAF.
Marc Jacobs Beauty Le Marc Crème Lipstick in Blacquer, $30, available at Marc Jacobs Beauty.

This may not become your go-to shade, but it sure makes for a killer selfie. Think of this one as the coolest possible Snapchat filter come to life. The shade itself is a soft lavender; the highly pigmented formula (which comes in 32 other hues, BTW — all of which are eminently wearable) is creamy, silky, and long-lasting.
Make Up For Ever Artist Rouge Lipstick in Taupe Violet, $22, available at Sephora.

Laced with a “seductive” rose-and-musk fragrance and emblazoned with romantic mantras in six different languages, this one is designed to help bring more love into your life. And while we can’t guarantee it’s going to get you a date, we can promise that it’s really, really pretty. The classic red has ever-so-slight blue undertones and claims to flatter every skin tone. “This color is amazing,” says Los Angeles makeup artist Jamie Greenberg. “It looks good on everyone.”
Revlon Love Is On Super Lustrous Lipstick, $7.99, available at Revlon.

You bring the confidence and this striking brick red will do the rest. It works well on all skin tones, says Greenberg, and the liquid formula is as matte as matte can be. You’ll love it — and that’s a good thing, because it lasts all. Freaking. Day. Bonus: 20% of the retail price goes to Project Chimps, an organization that works to end medical research on chimpanzees.
Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Project Chimps, $20, available at Sephora.

If you like vampy, have we got a lipstick for you. It’s a deep, blood red that’s crazy glossy. It's like patent leather for your lips — only shinier.
Yves Saint Laurent Vinyl Cream Lip Stain in 409 Burgundy Vibes, $36, available at Yves Saint Laurent.

You’ve seen it on Instagram, the runway, and multiple supermodels — and you’d better get used to it. Legendary makeup artist Pat McGrath's mix-and-match set comes with two shades of matte lipstick, two loose glitters to pat on top, and a clear gloss. Pile them on for an eye-catching effect that’s like twinkling ruby slippers for your lips.
Pat McGrath Labs Lust 004 Lipstick Kit in Vermillion Venom, $60, available at Sephora.

If lavenders, glitters, or dark-AF colors aren’t for you (or your office), consider this one. The soft, neutral pink shade is particularly flattering on fair to medium skin tones; the creamy, matte finish makes it feel fresh and new.
Stila Stay All Day Matte’ificent Lipstick in Papillon, $22, available at Sephora.

A bright, happy pink may not scream “fall,” but stay with us here: This warm, coral shade is an instant brightener for dull, washed-out skin, not to mention it’s a total mood-lift for those times when it’s raining for the third day in a row.
L'Oreal Color Riche La Vie En Rose in Blake's Pink, $5.99, available at Target.

If you ate a grape popsicle and then quickly swiped on lipgloss, you’d approximate the look of this super-cool, shiny purple. And the formula itself is fantastic: slick, easy, and lightweight like a gloss, but with lots of color and coverage like a lipstick.
NARS Velvet Lip Glide in La Main Bleue, $26, available at NARS.

If glitter-lips aren’t for you, may we suggest the slightly subtler shine of this one? It gives off a soft metallic sheen — not a full-on sparkle-fest — and the deep mauve brown looks particularly amazing on dark complexions. Plus, the liquid formula means business. Paint it on and it’s not going anywhere.
Milani Amore Matte Metallic Lip Creme in Pure Matteness, $8.99, available at Milani.

Sometimes you want to look like a badass in all black. And sometimes you want to look like Malibu Barbie. Can you guess which look this one is for? This bright, electric pink is super-girly, but the cushiony matte finish helps cut down on the sweet factor.
Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in Menace, $17, available at Sephora.

This overachiever was designed to work on cheeks and lids, too, but we love it best on lips. The color is the perfect berry: a deep brownish-reddish burgundy that’s just so good. Tap it on for a sheer, just-bitten effect, or really pile it on for a more dramatic, monochromatic moment.
Bite Beauty Multistick in Cerise, $24, available at Sephora.
